Ten sentenced of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has ruled against ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The accused individuals faced charges of circulating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to posting malicious remarks about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.

The court delivered suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has not yet been published.

A persistent conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.

This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's gender.

Their legal filing contends that Owens ignored any factual proof disproving her claim choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.

Owens has frequently reiterated these allegations on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.

Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.

The two tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
