The buzz about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
