Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Fans can expect learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
